Merchant-nuclear and power names ripped on Google's 20-year, 890 MW reactor-uprate deal with Constellation, while the wafer-fab-equipment complex sold off as the session's funding source.
Talen Energy (TLN) led the vertical, up 12.4% to $373.11, with Constellation (CEG) +12.2% to $300.40 — the deal's direct counterparty — and Vistra (VST) +10.8% to $160.50. The power, grid & generation chokepoint repriced after Google agreed a 20-year power-purchase agreement funding 890 MW of efficiency uprates at existing Constellation reactors in Illinois, Pennsylvania and New Jersey. Firm, around-the-clock electricity is the binding constraint on datacenter buildout, and merchant nuclear owns it; the grid-build read-through lifted Quanta Services (PWR) +5.3% to $719.56 and GE Vernova (GEV) +4.0% to $1,029.21.
The laggard was BE Semiconductor's US line (BESIY), down 6.4% to $214.76 (its Amsterdam line off roughly 5%), as the advanced-packaging and wafer-fab-equipment complex became the day's funding source on the standing US–China export-control overhang. The group sold off together: Camtek (CAMT) −4.6%, KLA (KLAC) −4.5% to $197.46, FormFactor (FORM) −4.5%, Lam Research (LRCX) −3.4% and Onto Innovation (ONTO) −3.6%. BESI owns hybrid bonding, the advanced-packaging & CoWoS chokepoint that gates HBM integration. Schneider Electric's ADR (SBGSY) extended its slide, −5.2% to $58.20, still digesting its $22.6B cash bid for PTC.
Breadth outside semicap was constructive, led by optical interconnect. Fabrinet (FN) rose 7.8% to $489.16 and Applied Optoelectronics (AAOI) 7.1% to $130.16, with Marvell (MRVL) +5.8% to $287.01, Arista (ANET) +4.1% and Broadcom (AVGO) +3.7% — the optical-interconnect & networking rung bid alongside power. The neocloud layer firmed, CoreWeave (CRWV) +5.0% to $91.72. The clear soft spot beyond equipment was memory & bandwidth: Micron (MU) −1.7% to $1,045.56 and SK hynix's Seoul line −2.8%.
The near-term calendar lands directly on the rungs that moved. OCP Global Summit (San Jose, Oct 12–15) and SEMICON West (San Francisco, Oct 13–15) are where interconnect, advanced-packaging and power roadmaps get set, and should give the optical and semicap names their next catalyst. Intel's 14A external-customer decision window opens at year-end — the domestic-foundry validation signal the leading-edge rung watches.
