The optical-interconnect chokepoint led a second straight AI-optics session as Lumentum jumped 6% and Arista 6%, while advanced packaging extended its slide.
The interconnect chokepoint led for a second consecutive session. Lumentum was the desk's leader, up 6.0% to $939.03, extending an aggressive bid in the AI-optics trade that has carried the stock up roughly 140% year to date; its fiscal Q4, reported August 11, put revenue at about $1.01 billion, up 109% year over year. Lumentum sits in the transceiver, optical-circuit-switch and co-packaged-optics layer that hyperscaler AI fabrics are wired with, and the Ethernet-fabric name rallied alongside it — Arista Networks rose 5.9% to $202.25, still riding a quarter that put revenue at $3.04 billion, up 37.7%, with EPS of $1.02 against an $0.89 consensus. The optical-and-networking strait, not the accelerator, was where Wednesday's money went.
The laggard was the advanced-packaging chokepoint, extending Tuesday's slide. BE Semiconductor's ADR (BESIY) fell another 4.2% to $223.00 — a second straight down day — with no fresh company headline; the overhang is the hybrid-bonding adoption timeline, after Besi omitted an expected update on memory hybrid-bonding orders and reports that Samsung and SK hynix are weighing a delay in favor of thermocompression bonding for HBM4. Hybrid bonding is Besi's primary long-term growth driver, and it is the die-stacking bottleneck that gates high-bandwidth memory and chiplet assembly, so timing risk there hits the stock disproportionately even against a strong order book.
The power-and-thermal chokepoint took the day's other leadership. Vertiv rose 3.2% to $263.81, GE Vernova 2.8% to $953.09, Eaton 2.5% to $419.44, nVent 2.5% to $155.23, Quanta Services 2.1% and Hubbell 1.8% — the grid, switchgear and cooling layer that gates whether an AI campus can actually be energized. Materials and tools were mixed: Entegris +2.6% to $142.46 and Marvell +2.0% to $245.11, against Camtek −2.3% to $143.25 and SUMCO −3.9%. NVIDIA slipped 1.6% to $209.66 into its print.
The calendar is immediate. NVIDIA's fiscal Q2 landed after Wednesday's close as the reference point for the entire accelerators-and-capex layer, and Broadcom reports September 3. Structurally, Ecolab's roughly $4.75 billion CoolIT acquisition is expected to close this quarter, hardening the liquid-cooling choke; the OpenAI listing window opens in Q4 and Anthropic's pricing window sits later in the year. OCP Global Summit runs October 12–15 and SEMICON West October 13–15 — the two events where the packaging and interconnect roadmaps that led and lagged Wednesday get their next public read.
